is there someone???

once i was raring to go
all set to break free
with desires burning inside
to touch the sky and fly high

now here i am
all fucked up
messin around with what's left
trying to know
where did it all go wrong
crying out my woes

is there someone
who can hear my heart out
is there someone
who can turn it all around
is there someone
who's lookin for me
is there someone
i want to be

is there someone...
is there someone???

If...

I’ve seen birds fly
I’ve chased them to the horizon
If I would have got wings
Life could have been different…

She could have said yes
She could have said no
If I would have asked her out
Life could have been different…

They wanted me to follow
They wanted me to chase
If I would have done that
Life could have been different…

People come and go & times do change
Now all of them have changed lanes
If I would have also moved on
Life could have been different…

They say life is beautiful
They say life is dark
If I would have understood it
Life could have been different…

Paheli???

PAHELI didn’t get the nomination for Oscars…and all sort of articles are flowing around about why it didn’t figure in the final five…just read an article on Rediff…(click on the title to read it)

I don’t know why we care soooooo much for the Oscar nomination… and I have a few arguments to support my statement…I had heard a lot of stories earlier and the article confirmed many of those…point no. 1- why do the producers and directors have to market their film to the jury…why are they asked to request the jury members to watch their movies…I mean if I make a movie with a low budget and then if I have to spend ten times more just to get the jury to watch it, doesn’t make any sense to me…does it?...point no.2- if Lagaan made it to the final five simply because of the presence of the British actors in the film and their influence on the jury (notwithstanding its awesome script and mellifluous direction), then there can’t be more foolish people than us…
point no. 3- why do we want an award from an academy which has no recognition for our culture and values… to them the songs in our movies seem absurd and our actors no more than clowns…but still an Oscar is what every Indian wishes for…as if it’ll make India a superpower or will give us an edge over any nation…what does that imply…I won’t say anything…it’s for us to understand…would they do the same if Filmfare started a category for Foreign Language Film…huh?...that’s all my lord…with that I rest my case…

The matador...

“Would he make it or not…this question troubled him a lot these days…what course would his future take…would she say yes or no…but that would happen only when he will ask her…but how could he do it…he doesn’t know about his own future…how can he take responsibility of her family…but true love doesn’t knock your door every once in a while…what should he do…should he talk to Anita regarding this…no, things might go awry with her…why not tell Sandeep about all this…but, he’ll mess up everything…”

Ambling on the MG road with these questions disconcerting his mind, he finally reached a conclusion...he had got the answers he was looking for…there was a new confidence in him…the world seemed altogether a new place to him…the air was singing to him in his ears…his eyes kindled with new hope…ecstasy streamed through his heart and onto his lips… he wanted to jump and touch the sky…he could see a positive and blissful future ahead…what he didn’t see was a matador coming at him…and next he lay on that very spot with all his questions put to rest along with their answers…........

15 PARK AVENUE

A beautiful day in the city beautiful…that’s how I would describe my last twenty odd hours…it rained incessantly in the morning and the rain gods are pouring their heart out even at this hour…it was the first day of my last semester in the college…and I didn’t find anything better than to spend the whole day chatting with friends after a month long vacation…the chit-chat ranged from last month expeditions to plans for the last few months in the college and included my blogs as well…and then came the icing on the top…after conversing the whole day about everything there was and would be I decided to go for an evening show of 15 PARK AVENUE…and I’m still subconsciously trying to figure out where the hell did Konkana Sen Sharma disappear in the end…all I can say is “what an ending…”

I believe most of you would have ignored this movie…and I can’t be more certain that this one ain’t meant for the masses…this is abstract film making…15 PARK AVENUE is an altogether different genre…and if I say that the performances were impressive then that would be an understatement…I hadn’t seen a Shabana Azmi movie before this one…and I can’t regret more…there was an aura of self-reliance surrounding her whenever she came on screen…and Konkana leaves behind all the performances in Mr. & Mrs. Aiyer n Page 3…playing a schizophrenic and epileptic girl here she comes up with one of her career-best roles…Rahul Bose’ expressions were a mix of regret and sympathy throughout…but the climax…I donno what to say…well, apart from some awkward English here and there, the movie had some moving dialogues…there’s a scene when Konkana goes to Shabana (completing her college work where she’s a prof…)and talks about a tantrik who had been to their house and beaten her earlier in the day…Shabana rejects all her statements taking them as delusions of her mind…to which she replies “if I say that you were imagining that you were a professor, and in reality you weren’t…then…” and another conversation between the psychiatrist and Shabana…where they debate about delusions and reality…

The most touching one is when Rahul narrates to her wife Sheffali Chhaya, the agony of Konkana…he says “poor baby, she’s looking for something which doesn’t even exist…” and then comes the most significant dialogue of the movie- “aren’t we all”…

Well, this bug of abstract ending seems to have bitten me as well. Wait for my next blog…

P.S.-and if you aren't still convinced...Watch this movie for the picteresque locations in Bhutan which have been beautifully photographed in the movie...simply gorgeous...

the wrapper...

He was crumpling the piece of wrapper in his hand… these days he always kept on thinking to himself, most of the times standing at that very place... he had kept the news under wraps for the whole week…but now the results were out on the office notice board. He had been demoted. What could he do now?

How happy he was when he heard that there will be three promotions this year, one more than the last year. After missing out on the previous one, he was hopeful of getting it this time. He had been working hard. He had even gone on to the verge of challenging the Boss in one of those “Behind the doors” meeting.

“How can you finalize the deal with Axle’s, Sir…their reputation is on a decline…Ryder’s offer best suits our needs…”

He knew it, he was right… But every one in the room frowned at him as he had done the unthinkable… Challenge the boss…that would be the last thing they would do after getting a job somewhere else…but he had been an achiever throughout his life. He joined this relatively new firm, rejecting an offer from a MNC in a hope that he will grow much faster in a smaller company…but he had never fit into the “cabin attitude” of this new firm. You were not supposed to think outside your cabin…coz that was the job of the boss…last year he was tolerated coz he was seen as a newcomer…but this year he couldn’t avoid the axe…and now there he was…with every crumpling sound a new thought was coming to his mind…was it a mistake to decline the offer from that MNC…was he a misfit into this org…was it a blunder to suggest the boss with a much better alternative…was this his biggest failure…he didn’t want to enter that office again where every face would have an “we told you so” expression…

And then the mobile rang…it was Mahesh, his only friend in the office...as he kept the phone back in his pocket he threw the wrapper in his hand…and two minutes later he too jumped from the place he was standing… the twenty-fourth floor of his building…he was dead…

The boss had finalized the deal with the Ryder’s…
